OK, you got me. Time is fixed and we can’t
manufacture it. We can only manage ourselves and what we
do with the time we have.
“Time
management is one of those skills no one teaches you in
school but you have to learn. It doesn't matter how
smart you are if you can't organize information well
enough to take it in. And it doesn't matter how skilled
you are if procrastination keeps you from getting your
work done”.
The first
step to get a handle on your time usage was the
Time Survey. This gave
you a gross overview of how your time would be used
ideally.
The second step is to
make a daily log of how you actually spend your
time.
Are you wasting time
that you had not realized; games, surfing the net,
day dreaming etc.?
At the end of every
hour jot yourself a quick note about how you
actually spent your time for that hour; one sentence
or less should be OK.
Time management is actually changing your behaviors, not
changing time. A good place to start is by eliminating
your personal time-wasters once you have identified
them. You are IE’s (so you not only set goals
but you track and quantify your progress) so track
them over time to see whether or not you're
accomplishing your goals.
Prioritize ruthlessly with extreme prejudice.
Start each day with a review of your planner noting
due-dates of homework, projects, papers, presentations,
quizzes, and tests prioritizing the tasks for that day.
