Puzzle Box Origin
https://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/puzzles/puzzle-box1.htm "The Japanese are credited with creating the
first puzzle boxes in the early- to mid-19th century in Japan's
Hakone region, just south of Tokyo. Dubbed Himitsu-Bako, or personal
secret box, they were marketed to people traveling by carriage as a
way to hide their valuables from highway robbers. Robbers typically
overlooked the boxes, which appeared to be merely ornamental
objects". "In order to open a Japanese Puzzle Box, you
need to move/slide one part (or more) on one side of the box. This
action will allow other parts on other sides of the box to be moved
too and so forth, so basically each part that is being moved is
partially unlocking other parts of the box which allows them to
move, until the right combination is reached and the box is opened.
This is a team project, but with
individual reports.
The expectation is a
shared responsibility for its completion. Included in the individual
report will be the assessment of each team member’s
performance. Hand tools are preferred but the group may use
the Rochwell table saw if
necessary (additional
training
required before use). Task Each group will review at least five
videos
from the list (Include which videos were considered). Submit the group’s selected video for
approval by instructor. Upon approval, create a dimensioned drawing
of the box (listing all the materials needed). A bill of materials must be approved before
construction can begin (depending on material availability design
may be modified). Build box based on submitted plans. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ For the list of videos, click here. The group may submit its own video for consideration!
