Lab #4

Goals

The lab is intended to accomplish four goals:

  1. To introduce students to the operation of NC software, MasterCam.

  2. To become familiar with its programming.

  3. To create a CNC program for cutting a desired part.

  4. To explore the additional features of the software.

The Assignment: Design a 'Ball in Hole Puzzle' to be made by pocketing on Mill

Task     (Individual)

  1. Design a game piece based on the symbol assigned to each student by Instructor.  (examples given below)

  2. In addition, include at least two of your initials into the design.

  3. This is an individual rather than a team assignment.  Each student will create a set of MasterCam files.

  4. The student will then do the following:

  • Pocket the drawing of the designed maze for the 'Ball in Hole Puzzle' (which includes two of your initials and the assigned symbol) to a depth of 1/8 inch.  Either carver the part in relief or raised (your choice).

The initials must be set in caps.

The font used is Colonna MT.

The design must include at least 9 holes or indentations for the balls.

Submit to Instructor an electronic copy of both the .MC file and the .NC file.

With the following naming convention, your first initial and then your last name.

                 Example: ymahmud.NC & ymahmud.MCX
